The Grove Gang refers to Anaxa, Phainon, Castorice, and Hyacine, and the zine will center around these four characters and their relationships._{Noēti Philia is not associated with Honkai: Star Rail or Hoyoverse, and we do not own the characters being depicted.}

Guidelines & Expectations

Applicants must be 18+ by the end of the Contributor Application period (February 15, 2026).Our primary method for communication will be in our zine’s Discord server. If you do not already have a Discord account, we ask that you make one to participate in this project.Contributors are expected to treat mods and fellow contributors with kindness and respect.We will have three check ins before the final submission deadline — we ask that you submit your check in form before each assigned deadline. If you need to request an extension, we ask that you do so 24 hours or more before the deadline. If we do not hear from you after attempting to contact you within two week’s time without prior notice that you will be unavailable, we will be contacting a pinch hitter to take your place.Contributors found to have been been engaging in activities including but not limited to pedophilia, sexism, racism, and harassment in any form will be removed from the project. AI generated creations are also not allowed in this zine, and if we find out that you have been using AI, you will also be removed from the project.Communication is key — everyone involved wants this project to be the best that it can be, so we want to work with all our contributors to help make this a reality. If you have any questions, please reach out to us on social media, in the Discord’s #ask-the-mods channel, or in your own private channel in the server.

Application Guidelines
Please be sure to read through the following guidelines carefully before submitting your application. Failure to follow these instructions may result in your application being disqualified.As a SFW zine, we ask that you submit at least one SFW sample in your application. NSFW samples are allowed, but please note that you will be creating a SFW piece for this project.Please include at least one piece relating to Honkai: Star Rail in your application. Pieces featuring Phainon, Anaxa, Castorice and/or Hyacine are strongly encouraged.Before submitting your application, please also ensure that all your links are accessible. If we cannot view your samples/portfolio, we will have to disqualify your application.

Writers
Please submit three samples of your best works that are 1,500 words maximum. At least one of these samples must be a completed story. You can also include samples that are excerpts of longer stories.Portfolios are encouraged, but not required. Google Drive is preferred, but any portfolio format that shows your pieces in an easily viewable manner is fine.If you are accepted, you will be asked to create an original fanfic centered around the Grove Gang that is between 1,500-2,000 words.

Page Artists
Please submit three to five samples of your works that best represent your style and/or the style that reflects what you would like to create for the zine. We ask that you include at least one sample with an illustrated background (not simple colours/gradient/blank etc.).Your pieces will be evaluated based on composition, color use, and anatomy.You will also be asked to provide a portfolio with an additional 5 to 15 pieces. Google Drive is preferred, but any portfolio format that shows your pieces in an easily viewable manner is fine.If you are accepted, you will be asked to create an original fanart piece centered around the Grove Gang that is either a full page or a spread.

Spot Artists
Please submit three to five samples of your works that best represent your style and/or the style that reflects what you would like to create for the zine. We ask that you include at least one sample with an illustrated background (not simple colours/gradient/blank etc.).Your pieces will be evaluated based on composition, color use, and anatomy.You will also be asked to provide a portfolio with an additional 5 to 15 pieces. Google Drive is preferred, but any portfolio format that shows your pieces in an easily viewable manner is fine.If you are accepted, you will be asked to collaborate with a writer based on your interest in their pitches and create an original fanart piece centered around the Grove Gang that aligns with/illustrates part of their story.

Merch Artists
Please submit three to five samples of your works that best represent your style and/or the style that reflects what you would like to create for the zine. Product photos are not required, but they are encouraged where available.Your pieces will be evaluated based on composition, color use, and anatomy.You will also be asked to provide a portfolio with an additional 5 to 15 pieces. Google Drive is preferred, but any portfolio format that shows your pieces in an easily viewable manner is fine.If you are accepted, you will be asked to create an original merch piece centered around the Grove Gang that is either a small collection of emotes, printable sticker sheets, social media icons, desktop/phone wallpapers, or another piece of digital merch.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a zine?A zine or fanzine is a fan-made collection of works (typically art and fanfiction) created by fans for a specific topic or character.

What does Noēti Philia mean?Noēti Philia is Greek, and it means "love/affection borne from a shared intellectual understanding". It encapsulates what this zine wants to be perfectly--a zine about four people brought together by learning and shared experiences.

What is the theme for this zine?Besides all works included centering around the Grove Gang (Anaxa, Phainon, Castorice, and Hyacine) in some way, there is no specific theme for the zine. Both canon-based works as well as AUs will be allowed.

What are the contributor requirements, such as age?We require all contributors to be 18 years or older by the time applications close (February 15, 2026). For all information regarding contributors and contributor requirements, please check the Guidelines page.

Will contributors be compensated?All contributors will be given free access to the full digital zine and any merch created for the project. As this is a digital and not-for-profit zine, contributors will not receive financial compensation for their participation, nor will they receive a physical copy of the zine.

What charity will the proceeds be going to?We haven't decided yet! That will be based on suggestions from the interest check and a vote from the mods later on once the zine is established. It will likely be donated to relief charities in Gaza or to help LGBTQ+ programs where funding is needed.

I've never been in a zine before. Can I still apply?Of course! We encourage everyone to apply, regardless of zine experience. We hope to find the best contributors for the project from among a pool of passionate applicants, both experienced and not.

Is this zine SFW only?Yes, this zine will be SFW only in order to limit the amount of production.

Are ships allowed in this zine?Yes, ships will be allowed! This includes both ships within the four central characters (i.e., Phainaxa, Hyarice) as well as ships outside of the central four (i.e., Phaidei, Anaglaea) as long as the focus of the work remains on the Grove Gang.

I noticed that the mod team doesn't have a ton of experience. How can I be sure they're going to be able to handle this?While it's true that a few of our mods have limited-to-no experience running zines, many of the mods without extensive zine experience have experience in real-life or related fields that directly correlate to their moderating position. This experience has been verified, and the zine team remains committed to transparency. The lack of zine experience is also the reason this zine is digital-only and SFW-only, to limit the amount of things needed for production.

Our mod team is aware of many of the issues surrounding the HSR zine space, and understands that a team with limited experience is cause for concern for our potential customers and contributors. If you have questions, please contact us and we will answer them to the best of our ability.
